All week I had been waiting for this day like a kid waiting for the delivery of the unicorn they ordered from Amazon. Friday arrived, the day of the debut of the lighting of the YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL installation on The Murphy Arts Center in Fountain Square. It had been a long week wrought with joys and challenges and I had very little left to give. As Dave and I sat working in our studio a couple of hours before the debut, it began to rain. At first it was a light drizzle, then a sprinkle, followed by a downpour complete with thunder and lightning. As the minutes passed, the dark clouds continued to hang ominously over the city. The thought of cancelling the debut due to weather would have been almost comforting but somehow I just knew the event would happen in spite of the rain. Sending up a prayer I posted the following on Facebook:
A girls gotta dream. So this is how it’s going to go tonight. The rain is going to stop. The clouds will part and a rainbow will appear as the sun rays peek through the clouds.
And then a unicorn will fly over the you are beautiful installation
and then the lights will come on.
And then angels will sing.
Then the unicorn will fly over all the people and sprinkle glitter on us.
Which is pretty much exactly what happened (minus the glitter sprinkling unicorn, of course). Nearly a hundred people came to celebrate with us and we are more than grateful. Needless to say, it was a perfectly joyous night!
We are better together. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.
